How did you get into FM/ Accidental FM?
I pursued an education in Facilities Management and received my bachelor’s degree in construction and Facilities Management from Brigham Young University. | was interested in a variety of industries related to construction and management, and the FM program at BYU was a great path to a variety of opportunities. After graduating | soent a few years in the real estate valuation business before going to work for Sodexo in their higher education facilities segment. | had interned with Sodexo in college and loved what the company stands for and has to offer! | am currently the Director of Facilities Operations for Sodexo at Corban University in Salem, OR.
One off Weird Experience in the industry?
During an internship at a small university in Denver, CO | took a trip to the basement of a vacant chapel on campus that had not been used in many years. It was a holding place for surplus furniture at the time, and to my surprise, it was also used by the student life department as a haunted house location. The “special effects” that remained on the basement floor and window glass was a nice surprise. It was relieving to realize that it was all fake.
A highlight of your facility or operation?
The campus that we service is located on a hill surrounded by a variety of mature Sequoias, Douglass Firs, Oaks, Maples, and as well as beautiful ground cover and shrubbery. In addition to the beautiful, wooded grounds, the campus was previously a state hospital that was purchased by the University in the 60’s. We have amazing historic buildings that bring plenty of character and challenges but offer a great experience to students and our operations team.
